Can I bring a OHV /ATV and where can I ride them?

Definitely! There are a vast variety of trails near the Powderhorn. Most are in the adjacent National Forest and Colorado State Forest State Park.

Is there Good Fishing and Hunting nearby ?

Absolutely! This is trout country; you will find numerous stream and lakes surrounding the Powderhorn within a 3 mile radius and within the adjacent National Forest and Colorado State Forest State Park. The Powderhorn has a stream filled with brook trout on the property. There are also blue ribbon lakes and streams in North Park stocked with rainbow, cutthroat and brown trout within a short drive from the Powderhorn.

Hunting is excellent around the many mountain ranges that surround the Powderhorn. We welcome archery, black powder and rifle hunting accommodations from the start of the hunting season through the second rifle season. We are closed for the third and fourth rifle season.

Make your hunting reservations early since we tend to fill those dates quickly!

Will we be able to see any wildlife near the Powderhorn?

Yes. Wildlife is abundant all around the property and in the adjacent National Forest and Colorado State Forest State Park. The best time to see moose and deer (and most all wildlife) are during dawn and dusk when they are feeding. Moose feed on willow branches and leaves so look for those in the many meadows that are in the area. You may see a bear, fox or badger also. Elk are often seen in the higher elevations. Bird watching is also outstanding in the area and many professional wildlife photographers have stayed with us

Where are good hiking trails?

The most popular, well-maintained trails can be found within the Colorado State Forest State Park that is adjacent to our property. The State Park has a visiting center called the “Moose Visitor Center “just a mile down the road from us that is a great source for maps and information about the area. And of course, you can hike and trail blaze on and around our property which is next to the national forest.

Is there a restaurant and a grocery store at the Powderhorn?
No, we do have a small store with pop, snacks, bug spray, some toiletries, t-shirts, mugs, hats etc. and fishing supplies. There is a Mexican restaurant/bar located just 100 yards north of us. (hours vary). And groceries can be found at “The Cabins” ¼ mile east, Note that the items available are limited at these locations but will take care of “Oops, I forgot the_____ !” There is a variety of restaurants in Walden, the nearest town 21 miles west of us and there is a full scale grocery store as well as (2) gas stations.

Do you sell Liquor and Tobacco?

We do not, however they do in Walden, about a 24 min drive.

Do you sell Ice, Firewood and Snacks?

Yes, we do, in the Lodge along with cold drinks, snacks, fishing equipment, toiletries and souvenir T-Shirts.
